Fishing on river and lakes

One of the most beautiful and the most interesting rivers which disappears into the earth is one of three the most famous trout water in the world. It rises unexpectedly peaceful behind the Velebit hills. Its natural spring is in Tonković vrilo, situated at the entrance of the amphitheatre made by hills in the south part of the Valley Gacka.

It runs down over old mills and connects with more tributaries in its upper parts and then it meanders through the Gacka valley beside Otočac towards the mouth in the north-west. Huge quantity of the biomass, the constant water temperature, the unique flow, chemical, biological and physical values of the first category of water enable of the salmon fish four times more than in the famous world waters of the same or similar type.
17 water animal groups or organisms are known. They settle down the whole flow of the river and they make the basic food for the stream trout, thanks to that it has so intensive growth.

Fishing areas:
A - From the Gacka river spring to the Stanišić bridge (5th concrete bridge) fishing is allowed only with fake fly. In the zone from the bridge Podgora (1st bridge) upstream to the mouth of the Sinač open sea into the Gacka, fishing is possible by principle “Catch and leave”
B - From the Stanišić bridge (5th concrete bridge) downstream fishing is allowed with fake fly and with all fake baits.
C - On the Švik and Gusić lake fishing is allowed with real baits respecting fishing rules.

The tributaries Kostelka and Knjapovac

Daily catch: In the zones A and B one fish daily can be kept, but in the zone C three fish daily.
It is not allowed to use weights and floats during fishing with the fake fly.
